From Nashville to Holly Creek

From Nashville, Sherpa Camp is about three and a half hours southeast, by way of Chattanooga and Chatsworth. The cabin sits on Holly Creek at the western edge of the Cohutta Wilderness, about an hour and fifteen minutes past Chattanooga.

The route

Take I-24 east to Chattanooga, then head south into Georgia toward Chatsworth. From Chatsworth the road climbs east into the Cohuttas, and the last stretch is gravel. We send the final turns 24 hours before you arrive.

No. 2

The hour you lose

Nashville runs on Central time and Georgia runs on Eastern, so the clock jumps an hour on the way. Leave Nashville at noon and you arrive around 4:30 by the cabin's clock. Plan the daylight around that.

No. 3

The last stop

Coming this way, Chatsworth is your last town for groceries and gas. Pick up firewood there as well, since the cabin does not supply it.

No. 4

When you get here

Holly Creek runs past the porch, shallow enough for small children to wade. The cabin sleeps five, with a king bed in the loft and a bunk room for three.

Fort Mountain State Park and its 855-foot stone wall are on this side of the mountain, a good half day when the weather turns.
