A Cabin Above Chatsworth

Chatsworth is the Murray County seat, sitting at the foot of Fort Mountain where the Cohuttas rise out of the valley floor. Most people driving to a north Georgia cabin turn toward Blue Ridge or Ellijay and never come over here. That is the town's advantage and ours.

Sherpa Camp is up Old CCC Camp Road on the headwaters of Holly Creek, on a grandfathered lot with national forest on every side. Chatsworth is your last stop for groceries, gas, and anything you forgot.

What the town is for

Provision here. Buy what you need before the pavement ends, because turning around later is a real drive, not a quick errand. A cooler is not a bad idea in summer.

Chatsworth also puts you at the base of the Cohutta Overlook drive and at the gateway to Fort Mountain State Park, and the Chief Vann House, one of the better-preserved early Cherokee-era homes in the state, sits just west of town at Spring Place. It is a short stop and a genuinely unusual piece of Georgia history.

Why this side of the mountain

The Ellijay and Blue Ridge cabin markets are crowded, and much of what gets built there is a rental product with a mountain view attached. This side is quieter. The national forest comes right up to the property, Holly Creek runs past the cabin year-round, and the nearest trailheads are a short drive rather than a day trip.

If you want restaurants, breweries, and shops within walking distance, be honest with yourself and book in town. If you want the forest at your door and are willing to buy groceries before you drive up, this is the better end of the deal.

The cabin

Sleeps five, with a king bed in the loft and a bunk room for three. One full bath, full kitchen with a real stove, deck, park-style grill, fire pit, and a small s'mores kit waiting for the first night. Cell service drops on the way in. Starlink restores it once you arrive.

Directions are sent 24 hours before arrival. Save them to your phone before you leave town, because the road will not wait for you to load a map.
