The drive · Atlanta
From Atlanta to Holly Creek
Sherpa Camp is about an hour and forty-five minutes from Atlanta, 25 minutes past Ellijay on Holly Creek. It is close enough to leave after lunch on a Friday and still reach the gravel in daylight for most of the year.

No. 1
The route
Take I-75 north to I-575 and stay with it as it becomes Highway 515, the Zell Miller Mountain Parkway, into Ellijay. From Ellijay the road runs west toward the Cohuttas, and the last stretch is gravel. We send the final turns 24 hours before you arrive.

The Friday problem
Getting out of the metro on a Friday afternoon costs more time than the mountain roads do. Leave ahead of the commute or after it, and the rest of the drive takes care of itself.
No. 3
The last stop
Ellijay is the last town. Do the grocery run and fill the tank there, and pick up firewood too, since the cabin does not supply it. From town it is 25 minutes to the cabin and the phone signal quits partway, so load the directions before you leave pavement.

A two-night weekend
Two nights is the minimum, and it is enough. Arrive Friday with daylight left. Saturday belongs to the creek and one outing, Barnes Creek Falls for small children or the Pinhoti for anyone who wants miles.

When you get here
Holly Creek runs past the porch, shallow enough for small children to wade, and the rocking chairs face it. The cabin sleeps five, with a king bed in the loft and a bunk room for three.
