Wild, yet near everything. A place to rejuvenate and rediscover adventure.
Sherpa Camp sits high in the hills near the edge of the Cohutta Wilderness, where winding CCC camp forged gravel roads and mossy ridgelines remind you what the world felt like before it got loud. But despite its remoteness, the cabin is surprisingly accessible—just 90 minutes from Atlanta and a little over an hour from Chattanooga.
Here, you wake to birdsong, not traffic.
Stars, not endless streetlights.
Stillness, not schedules.
You’re close to everything, without being in the middle of anything:
★ 25 minutes to Ellijay — Apple orchards, farm stores, tubing, cozy cafés, and vineyards tucked into the hills
★ 2 miles to Mulberry Gap — A hub for mountain bikers, with shuttles, meals, and resupply
★ Near Lake Conasauga — Georgia’s highest lake, perfect for paddling, swimming, and peaceful mornings
★ At the edge of the Cohutta/Big Frog Wilderness — 95,000+ acres of protected backcountry, waterfalls, trout streams, and quiet trails
★ Close to Fort Mountain State Park — Scenic overlooks, mysterious stone walls, and beginner-friendly hikes
Getting here is part of the magic.
You’ll cross creeks, drive through forest tunnels, and climb roads that curve like old sentences.
When you arrive, it doesn’t just feel like a destination—it feels like a threshold.
The road is gravel. The view is wild. The quiet is real.
This is where wonder lives.
(25 minutes or less—sometimes just steps from the porch)
You don’t have to go far to find wonder. Some of the best moments at Sherpa Camp happen right here—walking the mossy forest roads after a summer rain, sitting by the creek with your feet in cold water, or spotting a salamander tucked into the roots. A short drive (or bike ride) takes you to Mulberry Gap for mountain biking trails, trailhead shuttles, and weekend meals. The Holly Creek Headwaters run right through the valley below us—excellent for wild trout and stock fishing or a quiet morning wade. And just up the ridge, Georgia's highest lake, Lake Conasauga offers swimming, paddleboarding, and short, beautiful hikes beneath tall hemlocks. Whether you’re looking for adventure or just want to rest beside something real, you’re already in the right place.

If you’re up for a drive, the region opens wide. You can follow these winding forest roads right from the cabin and eventually be spit out toward Jacks River Fields, Blue Ridge, or even Copperhill & the Ocoee River over the Tennessee line. Downtown Ellijay—25 minutes down the mountain—offers apple orchards, antique shops, coffeehouses, tubing, and award-winning vineyards tucked into the hills. You can spend the morning hiking the Pinhoti Trail, grab lunch in town, and be back by evening to light a fire. The best part? No matter how far you go, you’ll want to come back to the quiet of Sherpa Camp.

Sherpa Camp Cabin Field Guide
Every stay at Sherpa Camp includes access to our hand-crafted field guide—a curated book of trails, creeks, secrets, and stories we’ve collected over the last year and a half of living here.
It’s not a brochure.
It’s a way in.
Inside, you’ll find:
— Hidden trout pools just down the gorge, where the water turns turquoise when the sun hits right
— Easy morning trails for kids, friends, or slow walks with coffee
— The best overlook for a quiet sunset just a mile up the road
— Where to look for salamanders and mushrooms after summer rain
— The swimming hole with the flat rock ledge no one talks about
— Pages for you to write in—because your story belongs here too
And so much more!
We believe the land speaks—if you know how to listen.
The guide just helps you hear it a little clearer.
“You come here to remember what the world felt like before it got so loud.”
